Press Release
Red Herring Launches Odiogo Listen-Now And iPod Podcast Services
Leading media company that covers innovation and high-tech ventures launches a new distribution layer
with innovative audio services.
Belmont, CA and Jerusalem, Israel, December 12, 2007 — Red Herring, the sophisticated and
savvy insider's guide to the business of technology, announced today the availability of Odiogo's
Listen-Now and Podcast capabilities on www.redherring.com.
Red Herring has now enabled its website visitors an easy and instant way to hear text articles. With
Odiogo's technology, Red Herring readers can become listeners and consume their favorite content
while multitasking or on the go.
Odiogo's solution automatically converts internet articles into high fidelity audio files, enabling
listening to internet news sites and blogs on PCs and portable devices. Odiogo transforms and delivers
Red Herring's text-based content as audio files and audio streams, allowing Red Herring to embrace the
'write once, consume on many' paradigm by quickly making the same text content available in audio form.
In order to ensure a superior experience for listeners, the high quality audio rendition of news
articles is based on semi-automatic, continuous content monitoring and dictionary enrichment. Additional
technical advancements, such as, content coloring and translation of formatting attributes will enhance
the user experience even further.
Red Herring now provides any situation access to its on-line content, enabling its community of readers
to 'listen to' their favorite articles just as they would listen to a traditional radio program. Red
Herring's articles can be accessed on-the-go (eye free situation) and while multi-tasking, and Red Herrings
constituents are no longer restricted on how and when to consume their favorite online text content.
The audio generated by Odiogo is near-human quality, and the text-to-speech transformation is based
on continuously updated dictionaries for addition of foreign words and company names. This is particularly
important as every day brings its share of new market players, acronyms and company names.
How it works
Odiogo's infrastructure monitors the content published by the Red Herring and scans
articles as soon as they are posted. Unknown words are sent for validation to the linguistic team which
defines their phonetic pronunciation. The generated high fidelity audio files can then be listened to
on a variety of devices: the pc through the Listen Button feature, with Podcast on iPod/mp3 players,
and on mobile phones (including the iPhone).
