What is TNV? Talking Netvibes is an iPhone application allows Netvibes users to browse their entire dashboards, tabs, and widgets to view and, most importantly, to listen to any story. Social sharing features also allow the user to share articles via email, Twitter or Facebook. ^ top
What is required in order to use Talking Netvibes? You need to have a Netvibes account which is free on www.netvibes.com as well as an IOS device iPhone, iPod Touch. The application also runs on the iPad although it’s not specifically designed for this device. The app requires iOS 4.0 or later. ^ top
How does the application work? The application fetches all the RSS feeds used in a Netvibes environment and displays it according to the dashboard/tab/widget hierarchy. Widgets are displayed on the top row which can be scrolled horizontally. In order to get a high availability of the audio versions, all feeds used by the apps are monitored by the Talking Odiogo servers. The audio versions of new stories are created as soon as new articles are detected. The same process is applied if a change has been made to a given article. ^ top
How much does the application cost? The application is available on the iTunes store at $2.99. A 6-month subscription is included with the purchase of the application. After the 6-month period, users can renew their service for another 6 months from within the app. ^ top
Why is the application subscription based? The subscription fee allows covering the cost of the servers as well as the license fee for the text to speech technologies used. As indicated above, several servers are used for the processing, storing and distribution of the audio files. We also use the best of breed Text to speech technologies to make sure the audio files we deliver meet the highest standards. ^ top
Why is there no audio for a specific article? Audio files are usually generated shortly after their publication. Sometimes it may take the Talking Netvibes servers a few seconds until the vocalization process is kicked off. In this case the article will still show in the list without the green play button. Audio should generally be available shortly after the list is refreshed. ^ top
Why do the text and the audio of an article include only its first sentences? Some news sources (newspapers, blogs) decide that the full content of their articles need to be seen only on their website. In those cases, the information made available to Netvibes (the RSS feed) include only the article’s title and the very first words of the story. ^ top
